Ripon Rowel PlayersAudrey joined in 1974, and is the longest serving member of the Rowels. her first part was Bertha in Beoing, Boeing, and other favourites include Maggie in Hobson's Choice, Kitty in Pity About Kitty, and Irene in Interior Design for which she won the Best Actress Award in the Nidderdale Festival.
Leading roles have been few and far between, but a range of character parts spanning a vast range of ages have been her forte, e.g. an 84-year old gran to more recently a 19-year old maid.
Her first production in 1977, No Time for Fig Leaves, began a series of 10 main productions, the last one being Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Eight Festival plays, winning Best Producer awards twice, and 14 pantomimes for Ripon Charity Pantomime Group, complete her production history.
She has written three one-act plays for the Junior Rowels, two of which were successful in winning their category in the Nidderdale Festival and also did well in the Harrogate Festival.
Another string to her bow has been adjudicating the Wensleydale Drama Competition at Crakehall for the last few years, and has just been asked to adjudicate a writing competition for the Ripon Writers Group.
Next production is yet another Festival entry, The Dock Brief by John Mortimer, performing in March at Pately Bridge. Her ambition for the next big production is "something by Shakespeare"!
